No Man Is An Island

Proverbs 11:29    "He who troubles his own house will inherit wind, and the foolish will be servant to the wise hearted."

Sadly most people do not understand the source of many of their problems. "Inherit wind" means to have problems and this verse says that these problems are self inflicted. In general terms a person troubles his own house when he has an "exaggerated desire for independence" (Zondervan: Life Application Study Bible). This unbiblical independence leads to problems of many kinds and is the outward expression of a person's attempt to live without God. We are asking for problems when we live as if we do not need God or other people in our lives. Surrender to the Lord totally and let it show in your relationships with others.
